IMCPS Global Health Projects
At IMCPS, we strongly believe that equal access to quality healthcare is a basic human right. However, in an increasingly complex, fast changing and often over-stretched healthcare system, the gaps between the haves and the have-nots are growing, causing inequalities and needless deaths. In this page, we will publish an article on the characteristics and scope of Global Health, and provide details of some of the books and publications dealing with the issues on global health and how to improve healthcare for all globally.

Global Health: Characteristics, Scope and Importance
Professor Dr Daniella Kingsley-Godwin
Editor-in-Chief
Introduction
Global health is an interdisciplinary field of study, research, and practice dedicated to improving physical and mental health and achieving health equity for all people worldwide[1]. It prioritises transnational health issues and focuses on protecting populations from threats that transcend national borders[2]. The aim of this page is to describe the characteristics, scope and importance of global health. Details of publications on Global Health Issues are also provided. Key charactresirics, scope and importance global health issues are described below[1-3]:
Key Characteristics of Global Health
Health Equity: The central goal is to reduce or eliminate avoidable, unfair, and remediable differences in health outcomes.
Transboundary Focus: It addresses issues that cross national borders (e.g., pandemics, climate change impacts, and migration).
Multidisciplinary: It combines clinical care and population-based prevention with social sciences, economics, law, environmental health, and human rights.
Planetary Health: It recognizes that human health is deeply connected to the health of the planet and the environments we share.
The Scope and Main Areas of Action in Global Health
Health Security: Monitoring and responding to global disease outbreaks and pandemics to prevent widespread health crises.
Health Disparities: Working in low-resource settings and underserved communities to build sustainable healthcare systems.
Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): Addressing worldwide drivers of conditions like obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
The Importance of Global Health
In an interconnected world, diseases, environmental hazards, and economic factors easily cross borders, meaning no country can insulate itself from global health effects. Global health emphasises international collaboration and equitable resource sharing to protect the global population.
Conclusion
Global health is focused on improving health and achieving health equity for all people worldwide – meaning working towards the absence of avoidable, unfair, or remediable differences among groups of people. Some of the publications on global issues, initiatives and policies are stated below on this page.
